I love Sara’s Blog. I love how happy and fun and free her life is….I’ve been following her blog for a really really long time, starting back in the days when I was all veggie and crunchy, and even though I’ve crossed the line back into the land of the carnivores, we still share the one thing that unites all believers, and that is a love for Jesus and The Word. So, when I was reading a couple days ago, and came upon her JAMES CHALLENGE, I knew immediately that this is what I’ve been needing to do.
I was challenged by my beautiful friend Ann to read through the entire Bible this year, something I’ve actually never done before, and so far it’s been the most rewarding experience in God’s Word. (and you didn’t think Leviticus could do that for you, did you?)
But I am an A.D.D. girl and I really do neeeeeeeeeed 43 things going on at one time to stay focused on just one thing. It’s weird, I know. And I’ve been getting the message LOUD and CLEAR from God that putting His Word in my heart, at this place and time, couldn’t BE more important. So this was an answer–I do believe!
Sometimes, we forget how important hiding the Word in our hearts is.
John Piper recently said to his congregation (regarding the importance and need for scripture memorization) “You may doubt that you can do this, especially if you are older. But ask yourself this question, If I offered you $1,000 for every verse you memorized in the next week, how many do you think you could memorize? Yet God says of his word in Psalm 19:10-11, “They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them Thy servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.” The real value of the word is far greater than $1,000 a verse. The question is, Do you believe this? Believing this will be the crucial motivation you need.”
(Here is a link to an article written by John Piper on this topic).
I have this on my iPod, I’ve been listening to it for months. I downloaded it from a podcast I listen to regularly called “Uncommonly Powerful Preaching”. Amazing stuff, that.
Didn’t know who the guy was (Ryan Ferguson), but I love hearing the Word this way, and now that I know his story, it’s even better. He’s got a love for the Word that goes deep, and I think that can only come from hiding it and loving it and believing it.
Are you up to the challenge? Join the Yahoo Group if you are , and if not, consider what you CAN do to hide His Word in your heart.
Go SERVE the King, show Him honor by hiding His Word in your heart!
(Incidentally, I Forgot to mention that Fireproof came out on DVD on Tuesday of this week. There are a lot of examples of Hiding His Word in that movie, especially in light of how it can minister to your marriage. Check it out!)
I joined a group on ravelry, and it’s all about making a square a month, for a year, joining them together, and making a blanket. Marvelous idea.
But for the A.D.D. person in your life, that is overwhelming. What colors? Theme? Kind? Pattern? Too. much. to. decide. And I want this blanket to mean something…..this is a year of difference for me, and I want it to represent that well.
Then, I was reading yesterday in the Book of Exodus and came across this phrase: blue, purple and scarlet yarn. And just like that, I found my colors. Yup, I love those colors, especially together.(and no, I don’t take the Word of the God of the Universe that lightly. It was just a nice coincidence.)
So, the colors are decided. And as it turns out, I have most of them. (Surprised?) Just need to work on patterns.
EDIT: I get it now…..I didn’t realize the pastor talking in the song “The Word is Alive ” by Casting Crowns –his name is TONY NOLAN. Ahhhh. it all makes sense now. Thanks Tony, for clarifying…(See comments below. And go listen to his stuff. He’s good, and he’s leading people in a good direction..)
But what does tony nolan staggers the imagination even mean?
I took the kids to a semi-local ice rink, and while they skated, I knit. A woman (Sue?–sorry I’m horrible with names…) sat next to me, asked me what I was making, and to Shannon‘s chagrin, I promptly replied “I don’t know yet– I think it’s going to be a drawstring bag, but I’m not sure.” I’m making it up as I go, and I’m just not quite ready to “name” it yet. But anyhow, shortly into the conversation, this woman and I talked about Jesus and how He has changed us, and how He is using us in the lives of others to bring Himself glory and honor. Amazing, isn’t it, that out of a crowd of 30 people, two of His followers were able to meet up, and immediately know that it was okay to talk about, adore, praise The King of Kings.
The group I was there with, well, that’s not exactly their thing, and it was cold where they were sitting, so we moved over near the fire, and just talked. It was really nice, and there was a boy sitting very near us that really really needed to hear about Jesus. And hear he did.
I was asked to bring a few of the kids home, and one of them was aforementioned Boy. On the way home in the car, the reason(s) that he needed to hear about Him were suddenly so obvious, and I had the privilege to go the the throne of my King to pray for him and over him with my kids there–which is something my kids don’t get to see much of…
So, Sue (?) if you are reading this, pray for Angel. He needs it. And thank you for being so bold to speak of Jesus, your King, in front of that boy.
Jesus was glorified yesterday. What an amazing God I serve–to use me! To glorify Him! wow.
and the bag? Well, it’s now officially a bag, but not quite done. I may write up the pattern, and call it the angel bag.
Paul said it best, and I couldn’t agree more…I am the foremost of all sinners. Yup, me. Mommy of 2, Wife of 1, and sinner, sinner, sinner. Yet, even as sinful as I am, He chooses to use me to glorify Him. Amazing. He is letting me, right now, see others through His eyes, with His heart, and to be His arms. It’s humbling, amazing and heartbreaking, all at once.
Why have I never cared?
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
Ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
(brandon heath, give me your eyes)
I am so blessed and so humbled. Thank you, Jesus.
I am smack in the middle of schooling , and travelling, and knitting and sewing and cleaning, and cooking and studying. Life is busy.

Interesting, isn’t it, that we usually interchange those two words? (I madethe most beautiful scarf….I love to create with yarn, paper, ink, thread) Those words, while alike, mean completely different things.
Genesis 2:3 says: Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
He created all the elements of the universe from nothing. Ex Nihilo. From His imagination, from His Thoughts.
Then, and only then, did He Make–using the elements He created, He made. He formed, He Shaped, and He let be.
Worship Him as not only the Creator, but as the Maker. Worship Him, for Holy is He.
you know craigslist , right? it’s like a garage sale, for your whole town, and you don’t have to get up early and put out signs and haggle on price with people…best thing ever.
SO, moving can be stressful (really?) and sometimes you don’t have your head screwed on all the way when you are packing…and you end up in the new place with stuff. Stuff you wonder why you keep it (never use it, don’t like it, doesn’t work, etc…) So I’ve spent the last 3 weeks sifting through our “stuff” and while throwing away non-working stuff is fine, the other stuff…well you know what they say. One woman’s trash…..
I’ve sold a ton of (off white, fingering weight, teeny tiny) baby yarn. I’ve sold a bike case (Story someday…) and lots of misc. stuff. It’s fabulous. Check out your local craigslist. Might be worth a try.
