23:90 A Lesson I Wish I Could Teach Every Girl in the World

23:90 A Lesson I Wish I Could Teach Every Girl in the World

Scripture:

2 Samuel 13:15-16

Then Amnon hated her with a very great hatred; for the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, “Get up, go away!”

But she said to him, “No, because this wrong in sending me away is greater than the other that you have done to me!” Yet he would not listen to her.

Observation:

Amnon loved her. He pined after her. He faked being sick so that she’d come serve him and be near him.

And when he got what he wanted from her (after raping her), he simply hated her. More than he’d ever loved her. He abandoned her and sent her away.

Application

I wish this story was taught in Sunday School.

Not because I want to dash the dreams of love of every girl aged 11-18, but I’d like to show how God’s Word warns of lust vs. love.

The Word shows right here how lust disguised as love can feel as real as the REAL THING….until you’ve given away too much, or until you’ve had too much taken away from you—it’s not something you can get back…..and although no mess, no life, no problem is bigger than the cross of Jesus, it’s a life of heartache and heartbreak for those involved…especially the one who is scorned.

Please consider mentoring or helping out at homes or camps or classes where purity is taught and emphasized—it’s the best gift you can give to a girl…to help her learn to wait for LOVE.

Prayer:

LORD, help us to protect our girls and to pray for them. Help daddies everywhere who aren’t showing their girls enough attention, that the girls are seeking it in the arms of the wrong person. LORD, heal those who have been hurt by LUST disguised as love, and LORD, please LORD JESUS, heal those who have been scorned and shamed and hurt by something they didn’t choose. In the Name of Jehovah-rapha, our Healing God, Amen.

  1. Amen! thanks for this post. I raised three girls who are all in their 20′s now. This is very hard, and very true.
